Mr. Ohtani Masahiko is known for his unique shaping techniques, for which he has won numerous awards. One look at his pieces shows them to be dynamic and arresting. He is also respected for his diligence to his craft. One third of the whole year is devoted to his research into different types of glazes which he prepares himself . The glazes are created by burning different types of wood and straw. Straw from near the sea is rejected due to its high salt content, a fact which reflects his committment to using only materials which live up to his rigorous standardsBorn in 1963.
Graduated from Yamaguchi College of Arts in March 1984.
Started training at Kyusetsu Kiln in April.
Studied under Eizo Miwa.
1990, 1991, 1992: Selected for the Western Crafts Exhibition 3 times.
1991, 1992, 1993, 1994: Selected for the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Exhibition 5 times.
1992, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2005: Selected for the Tea Ceremony Sculpting Exhibition 5 times.
1998: Became independent in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. 1998
