The Seventh generation of the line of Ippyosai / 七代 一瓢斉. This is Japanese Lacquer Wooden tea caddy. This is in an Excellent condition with signed Wooden box. Including wooden box: 196 g. by Ippyōsai (一瓢斉) / IPPYO, Eizou (一瓢 栄造 1942- ).
Ippyō Eizō was the 7th generation of one of the leading families of lacquer masters in Kyōto. He studied under his father, Ippyōsai VI (1908-2001) and Shimizuya Kōmin. Ippyōsai VII is particularly known for his excellent ability to create complex compositions on the three-dimensional space of a natsume tea caddy. His workshop is currently run by the 8th Ippyōsai, his daughter Ippyō Ryō.
The wooden box made of paulownia wood (kiri) is signed at the bottom: Makie-shi Ippyōsai and sealed: Ippyōsai. Inside the lid of the box is an appraisal by the 15th Grand Master of the Urasenke Tea Ceremony School, Hōunsai (*1923): Unkin hira-natsume, Konichi. He also wrote his kaōin red lacquer on the inside of the lid of the tea caddy.
This work is done with the highest precision and takes the lacquer master several months to complete. Each design fits seamlessly between the body and lid. This stunning masterpiece comes in very good condition with full box.
